Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan Presidents Discuss Peace Agreement and Bilateral Cooperation

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on Saturday.

President Mirziyoyev warmly congratulated President Aliyev and the brotherly people of Azerbaijan on the historic achievement of signing a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, concluded a day earlier in Washington. He expressed confidence that the swift formalization of the agreement would play a significant role in ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the South Caucasus.

The two leaders discussed current issues related to the further development and strengthening of the strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, in line with the agreements reached during President Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Azerbaijan in July this year.

They noted the positive momentum in bilateral relations, highlighting that trade turnover has risen by 30 percent since the beginning of the year. Work is ongoing to develop a portfolio of promising cooperation projects across various sectors of the economy, guided by an established roadmap. In addition, practical steps are being taken within the framework of a signed Production Sharing Agreement for a strategic project in the oil and gas sector.

The conversation also touched upon the schedule of upcoming high-level meetings and joint events, reaffirming the commitment of both sides to maintaining active and fruitful engagement at all levels.
