Uzbekistan Embassy Staff Discuss Reforms and Cooperation with Malaysian Temporary Detention Center Head

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: Accordimg to the NHC, Staff from the Embassy of Uzbekistan recently held a meeting with Mohd Rozi bin Hassan, head of the “Semenix” temporary detention center for foreign citizens under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Malaysia. The discussion focused on Uzbekistan’s recent reforms and the potential for enhanced cooperation between the two nations.
During the meeting, the Uzbek delegation provided detailed information about the extensive reforms undertaken in Uzbekistan, particularly regarding the organization of safe foreign labor migration and comprehensive support for Uzbek citizens working abroad. It was highlighted that Uzbekistan has significantly simplified its visa procedures for citizens from over 90 countries and has introduced an electronic visa system to streamline the process.
Mohd Rozi bin Hassan noted that Malaysia currently offers a visa-free regime for citizens from over 150 countries, including Uzbekistan, allowing for stays of up to 30 days. He reported that in 2023, Malaysia welcomed 29 million foreign visitors, although there have been instances of rule violations by some foreigners. However, he emphasized that Uzbek citizens are compliant with Malaysian migration regulations, and there are no Uzbek nationals currently held at the detention center.
The Malaysian side expressed a willingness to establish cooperative relations with Uzbekistan’s competent authorities to exchange expertise in managing temporary detention centers for foreign nationals. The meeting concluded with an agreement to strengthen ties between the Uzbek diplomatic mission and the Malaysian institution, ensuring the provision of legal and other necessary assistance to Uzbek citizens if required.
The “Semenix” temporary detention center houses foreigners who have violated Malaysia’s migration regulations until their deportation to their home countries.
