Uzbekistan–EU Parliamentary Committee Meets in Brussels to Advance Strategic Partnership

Brussels, The Gulf Observer: A meeting of the Uzbekistan–European Union Parliamentary Cooperation Committee was held in Brussels, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and outlining new areas of strategic engagement.

The Uzbek delegation, led by First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Sodiq Safoyev, held discussions with European counterparts on the current state of cooperation and prospects for its further expansion. Representatives of the European side highly praised the comprehensive reforms underway in Uzbekistan and reaffirmed their readiness to deepen collaboration.

Particular attention was devoted to enhancing trade and economic partnership. Participants noted that Uzbekistan has created favorable conditions to attract European investment, promote joint ventures, and introduce high-tech production. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in trade, investment, industrial collaboration, production of critical raw materials, transport, energy, agriculture, and the green and digital economy.

The meeting also underscored the value of strengthening scientific, educational, and cultural exchanges between Uzbekistan and the European Union.

Special focus was placed on cooperation in the areas of human rights, support for civil society, and the promotion of gender equality, reflecting a shared commitment to democratic values and inclusive development.

A roundtable discussion titled “Reforms and Cooperation: A New Agenda for Uzbekistan and the European Union” was also convened at the European Parliament. The event was attended by the European Parliament’s Permanent Rapporteur on Uzbekistan Ilhan Kyuchyuk, members of parliament, and representatives of EU institutions, analytical centers, and media outlets.

Members of the Uzbek delegation presented the outcomes of reforms implemented under the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, highlighting democratic transformations, economic liberalization, strengthened human rights protections, and improvements in the investment climate.

The delegation further outlined priority directions of Uzbekistan’s open and pragmatic foreign policy aimed at reinforcing regional cooperation and fostering sustainable development.

Both sides expressed confidence that continued dialogue and parliamentary engagement will contribute to elevating Uzbekistan–EU relations to a new level of strategic partnership.
