Vietnam and Cambodia Strengthen Maritime Cooperation Through Joint Patrol Conference

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: In a display of continued collaboration, the 33rd experience-sharing conference on joint patrol activities between Vietnam’s Naval Region 5 and Cambodia’s Ream Naval Base convened in the port city of Sihanoukville, situated in the southwestern province of Preah Sihanouk, Cambodia, on Thursday.
The conference, co-chaired by Rear Admiral Nguyễn Hữu Thoan, Political Commissar of the Naval Region 5 Command, and Rear Admiral Mey Dina, Commander of the Ream Naval Base, was dedicated to reviewing the accomplishments of the 73rd and 74th joint patrols conducted in the historical waters shared by Vietnam and Cambodia.
Emphasizing the efficacy of their synchronized patrols in upholding security and order within the designated areas, both sides lauded successful joint training exercises encompassing maneuvering formations, search and rescue operations, and communication techniques adhering to international signal laws, including flag signals, semaphore, and light signals.
Throughout the patrol missions, naval vessels from both nations consistently exchanged vital information regarding the maritime landscape and pertinent issues. Additionally, they diligently monitored and regulated activities within the historical waters, thereby bolstering security and order and fostering the economic development of coastal communities in both countries.
Looking forward, both parties committed to enhancing awareness among their respective fishermen regarding compliance with maritime laws and regulations during marine resource exploitation, refraining from encroaching upon foreign waters. They vowed to proactively collaborate with pertinent maritime authorities to combat transnational crimes such as terrorism, smuggling, illegal trafficking of goods, weapons, explosives, drugs, humans, tax evasion, and illicit border crossings.
Furthermore, they affirmed their intent to maintain open communication channels to ensure swift and harmonious coordination in addressing maritime incidents, all while upholding the spirit of cooperation and adherence to international law, independence, and sovereignty. Such efforts aim to sustain a tranquil and stable maritime environment, thereby fortifying solidarity, friendship, understanding, and mutual trust between the two naval forces.
During their stay in Cambodia, the Vietnamese delegation paid tribute by laying floral wreaths and offering incense at the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Monument, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who made ultimate sacrifices to aid the Cambodian people in their struggle against the Pol Pot regime.
