Vietnam and China Reinforce Cooperation on Border Management and Development

Kunming, The Gulf Observer: Vietnam and China have reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate within the framework of the Vietnam-China Land Border Joint Committee to effectively manage and protect their borders and border gates. This cooperation is guided by three legal documents on the Vietnam-China land border and related agreements, aiming to promote cooperation and development in the border areas and build a peaceful, friendly, and stable corridor between the two countries.
These messages were conveyed during the meeting between representatives of the Vietnam-China Land Border Joint Committee, held from May 28-29 in Kunming, Yunnan Province, China.
The meeting, co-chaired by Nguyễn Thị Hường, Deputy Head of the National Border Committee under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, and Wang Jin Feng, Deputy Director of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, saw fruitful discussions and a broad consensus on plans for 2024.
Key agenda items included coordinating activities to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-China Land Border Treaty and the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Protocol on Border Demarcation and Marker Planting, the Agreement on Border Management, and the Agreement on Border Gates and Border Gate Management.
The session also reviewed the current status of the pilot operation and plans for the official operation of the Bản Giốc-Detian Waterfalls in 2024. Furthermore, discussions focused on effectively implementing the three legal documents between the two sides, resolving border-related disputes, promoting cooperation and development initiatives in the border area, approving border-related projects, and enhancing the activities of Border Representatives.
This meeting underscores the commitment of both Vietnam and China to maintaining peace and stability along their borders while fostering mutually beneficial cooperation and development.
