Vietnamese and Chinese Foreign Ministers Hold Talks in Guangxi Province

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Minister of Foreign Affairs Bùi Thanh Sơn engaged in discussions with Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, during a meeting in Guangxi province on April 4th.

The meeting, part of Minister Sơn’s official visit to China, marked the first encounter between the two foreign ministers since both nations agreed to elevate their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, aiming to foster a community with a shared future of strategic significance.

Both ministers acknowledged the robust development of bilateral relations following the historic visits by Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng to China in October 2022 and by Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to Việt Nam in December 2023. These visits resulted in crucial agreements, including a joint statement aimed at deepening and elevating the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and fostering a community with a shared future.

Ministers Sơn and Wang reaffirmed the pivotal importance of the Vietnam-China relationship in each country’s foreign policy. They emphasized the necessity to enhance coordination and effectively implement high-level agreements and common understandings to continuously develop bilateral ties in a healthy, stable, and sustainable manner.

Both sides agreed to maintain frequent high-level exchanges, reinforce cooperation between the two Parties, and properly organize high-level diplomatic activities in 2024, including the 16th meeting of the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation. Additionally, they pledged to bolster economic and trade partnerships, prioritize strategic transport connectivity, and facilitate socio-economic exchanges.

Furthermore, the officials emphasized the importance of people-to-people exchanges and mutual support within multilateral frameworks. They also addressed sea-related issues, emphasizing the importance of implementing agreements and common understandings, particularly regarding the East Sea.

Minister Sơn advocated for balanced and sustainable economic-trade cooperation, urging China to increase the import of Vietnamese agricultural products and enhance economic corridors in the “Two Corridors, One Belt” region.

In response, Minister Wang expressed China’s commitment to expanding imports from Vietnam, supporting road transport connectivity, and strengthening educational and tourism ties. China also pledged to coordinate closely with Vietnam at regional and international multilateral forums.

During his visit, Minister Sơn also inspected the pilot operation of the landscape site of Bản Giốc (Việt Nam) – Detian (China) Waterfalls.

The discussions and agreements reached during this meeting underscore the mutual commitment of Vietnam and China to enhancing their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and promoting regional stability and prosperity.
