Vietnamese President and Lao National Assembly Chairman Reaffirm Bilateral Ties

Vientiane, The Gulf Observer: Vietnamese President To Lam and Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihane reaffirmed the importance and highest priority given to consolidating and enhancing the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos during their meeting in Vientiane on Thursday.

The leaders emphasized that the relationship between the two countries is an invaluable asset and a vital factor for each country’s revolutionary cause. Chairman Phomvihane highlighted that President Lâm’s visit demonstrates the deep friendship and fraternity of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people towards Laos. He also extended an invitation for Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn to pay an official visit to Laos soon.

President Lam expressed his appreciation for the good and valuable sentiments of the Lao Party, State, and people towards Vietnam. He congratulated Laos on its achievements in national construction and development and expressed confidence that Laos will overcome current difficulties to successfully implement the resolutions adopted at the 11th National Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, the 9th five-year socio-economic development plan, and organize all-level Party congresses as well as the 12th National Party Congress smoothly.

Chairman Phomvihane asked President Lam to convey his regards to Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng and other high-ranking Vietnamese leaders. He acknowledged the invaluable support from the Vietnamese Party, State, and people to their Lao counterparts during the struggle for national independence and the ongoing cause of national construction and development. He also highly valued the outcomes of the working trip to Laos by National Assembly Vice Chairman Nguyễn Khắc Định from July 3-5.

Both sides noted with pleasure the thriving relations between the two countries and their legislatures. They stressed the importance of maintaining regular delegation exchanges and contacts, actively implementing cooperation agreements reached by the two National Assemblies, organizing meetings and workshops to intensify experience sharing, and continuing close coordination and mutual support at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums.

President Lam praised Laos’ hosting of the first Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Parliamentary Summit in Vientiane in December 2023 and affirmed that Vietnam stands ready to assist Laos in external activities in the time ahead, including its 2024 ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Chairmanship.
