Wellington, The Gulf Observer: During a significant meeting held in Wellington on Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed China’s readiness to bolster its bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership with New Zealand. Wang, a distinguished member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, engaged in discussions with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, underscoring mutual interests and avenues for enhanced collaboration.

In addition to his meeting with Prime Minister Luxon, Wang also held discussions with New Zealand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Winston Peters, further solidifying diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Highlighting New Zealand’s policy priorities in education, technological innovation, infrastructure development, business environment enhancement, and export expansion, Wang assured Luxon of China’s commitment to serving as a dependable strategic partner in these key sectors.

Expressing China’s satisfaction with New Zealand’s continued engagement in the Belt and Road Initiative, Wang articulated China’s eagerness to explore new avenues of cooperation, including science and technology, green development, and innovation. He emphasized the importance of fortifying cooperation in traditional domains while capitalizing on emerging growth areas.

Wang emphasized the robust foundation and expansive growth potential of the Chinese economy, asserting that it will continue to stimulate global economic momentum and present fresh opportunities for New Zealand.

Reaffirming shared values, Wang highlighted both China and New Zealand’s dedication to multilateralism, support for the United Nations’ pivotal role in international affairs, and commitment to peaceful dispute resolution.

In line with these principles, Wang underscored China’s readiness to collaborate with New Zealand in countering unilateralism and protectionism, while rejecting Cold War mentalities and advocating for the progressive direction of human development.

In response, Prime Minister Luxon emphasized the significance of bilateral ties and advocated for increased high-level exchanges to foster mutual understanding. Luxon praised the comprehensive strategic partnership between New Zealand and China, citing it as a catalyst for bilateral cooperation.

Affirming New Zealand’s adherence to the one-China policy, Luxon expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with China across various sectors, including economy and trade, people-to-people exchanges, education, tourism, agriculture, technology, and climate action.
