Western Azerbaijan Community Condemns Amnesty International’s Statement on Azerbaijani Court Verdict

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Western Azerbaijan Community has strongly criticized a recent statement issued by Amnesty International regarding an Azerbaijani court verdict against individuals of Armenian origin, describing it as unfounded and defamatory.

According to the Community, the international human rights organization published a statement on February 17 that it claims misrepresented the judicial decision. The group asserted that it has repeatedly appealed to Amnesty International to support efforts aimed at restoring the rights of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia but received what it characterized as abstract and non-committal responses.

In its statement, the Community argued that Amnesty International’s latest remarks revealed what it described as the underlying reasons for the organization’s previous vague replies. It further accused the organization of failing to uphold the principles it advocates, alleging that it has taken a politically motivated stance on issues related to the region.

The statement also referenced the upcoming 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, asserting that Amnesty International’s position disregards the suffering of victims and approaches humanitarian issues through a political lens rather than a principled human rights framework.

The Western Azerbaijan Community concluded that such positions contribute to what it described as a growing decline in global trust toward international institutions.

Amnesty International has not yet publicly responded to the Community’s remarks.
