Stockholm, The Gulf Observer: A festive event marking the New Year and World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day was held in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, bringing together members of the Azerbaijani diaspora and representatives of friendly communities.

The event was jointly organized by the Sweden-Azerbaijan Union (SAF) and the Azerbaijan Culture Association and gathered diaspora representatives from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Syria. The ceremony began with the performance of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan.

In their opening remarks, SAF Chairwoman Sevda Dadashova and Chairman of the Azerbaijan Culture Association Samad Ilkinli welcomed the participants and underscored the importance of preserving solidarity, which they described as the greatest wealth of Azerbaijanis worldwide. They emphasized that safeguarding the Azerbaijani language, culture, customs, and traditions, maintaining national identity, and passing these values on to future generations is the shared responsibility of every compatriot.

“Our National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s ideas of national statehood and his activities in the diaspora sphere enable Azerbaijanis around the world to always feel a strong connection to the Motherland with pride and love,” Dadashova said.

Addressing the gathering, Asad Asadi, Chairman of the Freedom Association, highlighted that the ability to peacefully celebrate national holidays today is owed to President Ilham Aliyev, as well as to the martyrs and veterans who made great sacrifices for the country.

Chairman of the International Media Group and director Rahim Sadigbeyli noted that December 31 serves as a unifying day for Azerbaijanis in Northern and Southern Azerbaijan, as well as for compatriots living across the globe.

Javanshir Amir Hashimi, Chairman of the Garabagh Society, expressed satisfaction over the liberation of Azerbaijan’s territories, the restoration of territorial integrity, and the return of former internally displaced persons to their homes. “May our solidarity always endure,” he said.

Head of the Northern Cyprus Representation in Stockholm Hakan Aksoy also congratulated the participants, emphasizing that Northern Cyprus and Azerbaijan are friendly countries that will continue their path guided by the principle of “one nation, three states.”

Saadat Karimi, Chair of the Gobustan Intellectual’s Hearth, noted that the core idea of this historic day, included in the calendar by National Leader Heydar Aliyev, is Azerbaijanism and unity.

The event concluded with a concert program featuring performances by singer Javid Tabrizli from Ankara, Türkiye, and Gunel Hamdili from Azerbaijan, who entertained the audience with lively musical renditions.
