Xi-Biden meeting ‘stabilizes and betters’ bilateral relations: Wang Yi
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Saturday told media that the summit meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his U.S. counterpart Joe Biden “stabilizes and betters” bilateral relations at a historic time.
Wang’s remarks came as Xi wrapped up his U.S. trip after his meeting with Biden and attending the 30th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco, California. The Chinese president returned to Beijing on Saturday evening.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, quoted one of Xi’s quotes during his meeting with Biden on Wednesday, saying that “for China and the United States, turning their back on each other is not an option. It is unrealistic for one side to remodel the other. And conflict and confrontation has unbearable consequences for both sides.”
“The San Francisco meeting should not be an end, but a new beginning,” Wang also said, urging Washington to live up to its promise.
Through efforts from both sides, progress was made on various fronts, including artificial intelligence, drugs, military communication, direct flights and people-to-people exchanges, among others, according to the diplomat.
Wang stressed that communication between the two peoples is key to China-U.S. relations, calling for closer bonds and ties between ordinary people from both sides.
On cooperation of the Asia-Pacific region, Wang pointed out openness and inclusiveness are the keywords in order for the region to usher in another “golden 30 years.”
