Zangezur Corridor to Boost Middle Corridor Cargo Capacity, Says Turkish Minister

Zangezur Corridor

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said that the launch of the Zangezur corridor will create expanded opportunities for cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor.

Speaking during his visit to Batman province, Uraloğlu noted that construction of the Kars–Iğdır–Aralık–Dilucu railway line, which will connect to the border with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, is currently under way.

He said that once all sections of the Zangezur corridor, including segments in Azerbaijan and Armenia, are opened, the corridor’s overall capacity will significantly increase. According to the minister, the availability of alternative routes will enhance the efficiency of freight transportation between China and Europe.

Uraloğlu recalled that uninterrupted connectivity between Asia and Europe is already ensured through the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway and the Marmaray tunnel running beneath the Bosphorus Strait.

He pointed out that cargo transported along the Middle Corridor can currently be delivered by sea in as little as 18 days, compared to 35 days previously, adding that in some cases, shipping goods by sea from China to Europe can take up to 45 days.

The transport minister also emphasized that Batman province is set to become one of the key logistics hubs within the framework of the “Development Road” project.
