Zelenskyy Arrives in Jeddah for Talks with Saudi Crown Prince and US Officials

Jeddah, The Gulf Observer: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Jeddah on Monday as part of a significant diplomatic visit aimed at advancing peace efforts amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. During his stay, Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and hold discussions with US officials, as Saudi Arabia continues its diplomatic initiatives to achieve lasting peace in the region.

The Ukrainian leader will meet with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, affirming Ukraine’s commitment to peace. Zelenskyy stated, “After that, my team will remain in Saudi Arabia to work with our American partners,” further emphasizing Ukraine’s dedication to resolving the crisis.

According to an unnamed Ukrainian official speaking to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Ukraine is set to propose a ceasefire in air and naval operations during talks with Washington in Saudi Arabia. “We have a proposal for a ceasefire in the air and at sea, as these options are easier to implement, monitor, and initiate,” the official explained.

US President Donald Trump expressed confidence in the discussions, stating, “I believe we will reach good results in the negotiations.”

Saudi Arabia, which has positioned itself as a global mediator in an increasingly multipolar world, has played a pivotal role in peace efforts throughout the conflict. In recent weeks, the Kingdom hosted high-level negotiations between the US and Russia, with senior political figures from both nations in attendance. Since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has led diplomatic efforts, engaging with leaders from both sides to mitigate the crisis.
