2025 Confirmed as Warmest and Sunniest Year on Record in the UK

London, The Gulf Observer: The UK’s Met Office has confirmed that 2025 was the warmest and sunniest year on record in the United Kingdom, according to provisional climate data.

The Met Office said the annual average temperature for 2025 reached 10.09 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record of 10.03 degrees Celsius set in 2022. With this, 2025 joins 2022 and 2023 as the three warmest years ever recorded in the UK, and becomes only the second year in which the country’s mean annual temperature has exceeded 10 degrees Celsius.

The past twelve months were also the sunniest on record nationwide, with a total of 1,648.5 hours of sunshine. This figure exceeds the previous record, set in 2003, by 61.4 hours.

In addition to record-breaking warmth and sunshine, 2025 is also expected to be remembered for one of the most significant windstorms of the century, Storm Éowyn, which had a major impact across parts of the country.

The Met Office said the figures highlight ongoing long-term climate trends affecting the UK.
