4th Hainan Island International film festival kicks off in Sanya
Sanya, The Gulf Observer: Co-sponsored by China Media Group (CMG) and the People’s Government of Hainan Province, the 4th Hainan Island International Film Festival (HIIFF) lifted its curtains on Sunday in the island province of Hainan.
Three films produced by CMG, namely “L’Homme de Pekin,” “Keep Running,” and “Into Space,” were introduced to the audience.
The festival this year focuses on the theme of films transcending language and borders to transmit the light of images into everyone’s heart.
A total of 3,761 films from 116 countries and regions were submitted for the Golden Coconut Awards, among which 29 films have been shortlisted in three categories, namely feature films, documentaries and shorts.
The “Golden Coconut Award” jury consists of 13 artists from home and abroad, with Chinese director Huang Jianxin at the helm.
The much-anticipated event will also hold public screenings across the island. Up to 100 films will be shown across six categories, including gala, fest best, Asian new directors, panorama, new horizons, and classics. As a new section of the film festival, the “Asian New Director” welcomes outstanding works produced by new Asian directors throughout the year, portraying a new landscape of Asian cinema with their works.
The 4th HIIFF will conclude on December 25 with the announcement of the “Golden Coconut Award” for the best film, best director, and 10 other awards.
