Kazakh Senate Approves Migration Readmission Agreement with Austria

Astana, The Gulf Observer: Deputies of the Senate of Kazakhstan on Thursday approved an agreement between the Government of Kazakhstan and Austria concerning the readmission and transit of persons with illegal stay, according to media reports.
The agreement, which was signed in February last year in Astana, aims to establish a comprehensive legal framework to enhance cooperation between the two countries in combating illegal migration. It also introduces fast and orderly procedures for identifying and safely returning individuals who do not meet, or no longer meet, the conditions for entry or stay in the territories of Kazakhstan and Austria.
Under the agreement, a structured system of legal, administrative, and procedural measures will be implemented to facilitate the readmission and transit of persons residing illegally. The document also outlines mechanisms for dispute resolution, as well as provisions regarding its entry into force, duration, and possible termination.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Austria’s Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum have been designated as the competent authorities responsible for implementing the agreement.
Kazakhstan has previously signed similar readmission agreements with 21 countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Belarus, Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Moldova, Poland, Estonia, Serbia, France, and Italy, reflecting the country’s broader efforts to strengthen international cooperation in managing migration.
