Abu Dhabi to Host World Triathlon Championship Series 2024 Season Opener
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: Abu Dhabi Sports Council is set to host the season-opening event of the World Triathlon Championship Series 2024 from March 8-9, 2024. Building on the success of the 2022 Championship Finals, the capital city will once again welcome the MENA region’s only WTC event, showcasing its prowess in hosting international sporting events. The event will take place at Yas Marina Circuit, with participants concluding their race on the iconic F1 start line. The schedule includes elite races, community races, and exciting additions such as single-discipline running and cycling races.
The event is expected to attract the world’s best athletes competing for valuable Olympic or Paralympic qualifying points as they prepare for the Paris Games. The elite competition will feature 270 triathletes across four categories – World Triathlon Championship Men’s and Women’s Sprint race, Para World Cup, and Elite Mixed Team Relay. The community races, comprising fifteen categories, cater to all ages, abilities, and fitness levels, including dedicated races for athletes of determination.
The two-day event promises a combination of elite competition and grassroots community participation, emphasizing Abu Dhabi’s status as a leading destination for major global sporting events. The visually striking new 2024 WTC medal design incorporates the outline of the iconic Yas Marina Circuit F1 race track and the World Triathlon ‘globe,’ symbolizing the triathlete’s dynamic balance in Swim-Bike-Run; Mind-Body-Soul; and Earth-Air-Water.
