Abu Dhabi Welcomes FIBA 3×3 World Tour, Celebrating Growing Basketball Culture
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) have reaffirmed their strong partnership as the FIBA 3×3 World Tour arrives at the iconic Corniche. Talal Al Hashimi, Executive Director of Events at the ADSC, warmly welcomed the 14 participating teams, wishing them success in the tournament.
Al Hashimi expressed pride in Abu Dhabi’s hosting of the World Tour, particularly following the excitement surrounding the Paris 2024 Olympics. “This relationship with FIBA has been going for nine years, and we are so proud of this journey with them,” he stated, highlighting Abu Dhabi’s leadership in 3×3 basketball since hosting the inaugural FIBA 3×3 World Tour in 2015.
He noted the rapid development of the sport, both locally and across the UAE, and emphasized the importance of the event for the community. “There is plenty to do here, and I hope the fans come down and enjoy it,” he added, referencing the vibrant atmosphere of the Corniche.
The ADSC continues to nurture basketball at all levels through initiatives like the QUEST event, which attracts teams from across the UAE to compete for a chance to play against the world’s best. Al Hashimi reaffirmed the council’s commitment to maintaining the legacy of such events, fostering grassroots basketball development.
Ignacio Soriano, Head of Events and Partnerships at FIBA, expressed gratitude for the continued collaboration with the ADSC. “Our goal is to promote basketball and grow the game. Ensuring that we have Olympic Gold medallist Worthy De Jong engaging with local schools is all part of that plan,” he noted.
Worthy De Jong, a Paris 2024 Olympic Champion, echoed the sentiment, sharing his enthusiasm for inspiring young players during his visit to Abu Dhabi. “The more games and events you have here, the better. It’s only going to improve the game and love for it,” he said, encouraging fans to come out, enjoy the competition, and find inspiration.
As the FIBA 3×3 World Tour unfolds, Abu Dhabi reinforces its commitment to becoming a leading hub for basketball in the region, continuing to engage fans and athletes alike.
