Al Jabal Al Akhdar Welcomes Nearly 90,000 Visitors in First Half of 2025

Al Jabal Al Akhdar, The Gulf Observer: The Wilayat of Al Jabal Al Akhdar in Oman’s A’Dakhiliyah Governorate recorded a total of 89,780 visitors from January to the end of June 2025, reflecting a 5.8% increase compared to the same period in 2024, when 84,869 visitors were registered. The data was released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

This rise in visitor numbers has been attributed to a series of well-organized local events, particularly the popular Spring of the Mountain celebration, which coincides with the annual rose harvest season. The event is among the most prominent in the region and continues to attract domestic and international tourists alike.

The tourism initiatives were jointly organized by the A’Dakhiliyah Governorate Office, the Department of Heritage and Tourism, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Department. These efforts aimed to promote tourism while highlighting the cultural and agricultural heritage of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, especially the significance of Omani roses, their traditional harvesting practices, and associated industries.

In addition to the Spring of the Mountain, other notable events such as Rumana also contributed to increased tourist inflows. These events not only enhanced tourism promotion but also offered visitors immersive cultural experiences and access to traditional crafts and local products.

According to the NCSI data, 26,605 of the visitors were Omani nationals, while more than 6,000 came from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Visitors from other Arab nations totaled 4,998, while foreign nationals made up the largest segment, with 51,710 visitors.

Al Jabal Al Akhdar remains one of Oman’s premier tourist destinations, renowned for its cool summer climate, scenic landscapes, and diverse ecotourism opportunities. The area offers a wide range of accommodations including hotels, rest houses, and tourist lodges, further enhancing its appeal.

Adventure tourism also thrives in the Wilayat, with visitors engaging in hiking through valleys, cave exploration, and mountain climbing. These activities, combined with opportunities to explore traditional village life, have positioned Al Jabal Al Akhdar as a comprehensive destination for both nature and culture-based tourism.
