Canberra, The Gulf Observer: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Sunday strongly condemned a deadly mass shooting in Sydney, declaring that there is “no place for violence, hate and terrorism” in Australia.

At least 12 people were killed and 29 others injured in the shooting at Bondi Beach, Australian officials confirmed. Police said explosive devices were removed from one of the attackers’ vehicles, according to local media reports.

“There is no place for this hate, violence and terrorism in our nation. Let me be clear, we will eradicate it,” Albanese told a news conference after chairing a National Security Committee meeting in Canberra.

Describing the incident as a targeted attack on Jewish Australians, the prime minister said Australia would not allow division and hatred to take root. “Australia will never submit to division, violence or hatred,” he added.

The attack has drawn strong condemnation from world leaders. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said he was “horrified” by the incident and condemned what he described as a “heinous deadly attack” in a post on social media platform X.

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said he was “shocked by the distressing scenes at Bondi,” adding that his thoughts were with those affected. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also strongly condemned the attack, expressing his “sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.”

Separately, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his “deepest condolences” to the victims and said Pakistan stands in solidarity with the people and government of Australia during the difficult time.
