Amazon

Hanoi, The Gulf Observer: Amazon has pledged to support Việtnam in its aspiration to become a regional centre for e-commerce exports in Southeast Asia, Vice President for International Public Policy & Government Affairs Susan Pointer said during a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Lê Thành Long in Hànoi on December 5.

Deputy Prime Minister Long underscored that Việtnam greatly values cooperation with leading global technology corporations, viewing them as a crucial driving force for digital transformation and the development of a knowledge-based economy. He urged Amazon to continue accompanying Việtnam in its development journey and called on the corporation to deepen collaboration with Vietnamese technology enterprises to boost production and product development within Amazon’s ecosystem in the country.

He affirmed the Government’s commitment to creating favourable conditions for Amazon to engage in long-term, effective cooperation and investment, thereby contributing to the growth of Việt Nam’s e-commerce market and its sci-tech ecosystem.

Pointer commended Việtnam’s socio-economic achievements, particularly in administrative reform and digital transformation. She highlighted Amazon’s active support for Vietnamese small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in expanding globally, noting that the number of products sold worldwide by Vietnamese businesses through Amazon rose by 35 percent in the past 12 months. Currently, thousands of Vietnamese enterprises export and strengthen their global footprint through the platform.

Reaffirming Amazon’s long-term commitment to Việtnam, Pointer said the corporation aims to further promote “Made-in-Vietnam” products. She also pointed to the recent signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between Amazon Global Selling Vietnam and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency to launch the “V-Brands Go Global with Amazon” programme. The initiative will provide comprehensive online export training and certification for 1,000 Vietnamese businesses and support national brands in enhancing their global presence via Amazon’s e-commerce channels.

Amazon also expressed interest in increasing localisation within its electronic components supply chain and encouraged deeper participation of Vietnamese firms in its global value chains. Additionally, the corporation proposed expanding cooperation in training high-quality human resources in digital technology, data, and AI—key pillars for Việtnam’s sustainable development in the digital era.

Deputy PM Long noted that Việtnam is finalising its legal framework on science and technology, AI, digital transformation and high technology. He reaffirmed the Government’s resolve to support enterprises in improving technological capacity through flexible, transparent mechanisms that foster innovation, strengthen competitiveness, and advance the country’s digital economy.
