Amir of Qatar Holds Historic Talks with U.S. President Donald Trump

Doha, The Gulf Observer: His Highness the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, held an official round of talks on Wednesday with His Excellency President Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, at the Amiri Diwan. The talks marked the first official state visit by a sitting U.S. president to Qatar, a historic milestone in the long-standing relations between the two nations.
At the outset of the session, HH the Amir extended a warm welcome to President Trump and his accompanying delegation, wishing them a pleasant and productive stay in Doha. His Highness expressed great pleasure in hosting this landmark visit and reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Qatar and the United States.
HH the Amir noted that the agenda of the discussions would include key areas such as investment, energy, military and security cooperation. He underscored the importance of peace in the region, describing President Trump as a “man of peace” and commending their enduring personal rapport. His Highness expressed optimism that their shared aspirations for regional and global peace would soon be realized.
In a gesture of camaraderie and mutual support, HH the Amir also congratulated the United States on its upcoming hosting of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and future Olympic Games, highlighting the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in those efforts.
President Trump, in turn, conveyed his sincere gratitude to HH the Amir for the warm reception and generous hospitality. He praised the depth of the U.S.-Qatar friendship and expressed his eagerness to continue working closely with HH the Amir to advance peace and stability across the region and the world. The U.S. President also acknowledged the Amir’s leadership and the strength of the personal and diplomatic ties between them.
The discussions focused on strengthening strategic cooperation across a range of sectors, including defense, trade, investment, energy, education, and cybersecurity. The two leaders also exchanged views on the latest developments in the Middle East and other pressing international issues, with a shared commitment to enhancing global peace and security.

Following the main session, HH the Amir and President Trump held a bilateral meeting to further discuss regional developments and expand on their shared vision for a secure and prosperous future.
Earlier in the day, President Trump was welcomed with an official reception ceremony at the Amiri Diwan, which featured a 21-gun salute and a traditional Ardha performance. The ceremony also included a display of cavalry units and traditional Arabian camels and horses, symbolizing Qatar’s rich cultural heritage and national identity.
