Armenia’s Transit Prospects Will Drop to Zero if Zangezur Corridor Obstruction Continues: President Ilham Aliyev

Khankendi, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has issued a strong warning to Armenia over its continued obstruction of the Zangezur Corridor, stating that such actions are pushing Armenia further into transport and political isolation.
Speaking at the 3rd Shusha Global Media Forum, President Aliyev remarked, “If Armenia continues to block the process related to the opening of the Zangezur corridor, its chances of ever becoming a transit country will approach zero.”
The Zangezur Corridor, a proposed transport route linking mainland Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave through southern Armenia, has been a critical component of regional connectivity plans following the trilateral ceasefire agreement signed after the 2020 Karabakh war.
“Unfortunately, no work related to the Zangezur Corridor has been carried out on the Armenian side over the past five years,” President Aliyev said, accusing Yerevan of deliberately sidelining the project. “This issue is being intentionally removed from the agenda.”
He emphasized the broader implications of Armenia’s inaction, stating, “If they continue to obstruct this process, I believe they will find themselves not only in the transport isolation they are already experiencing, but also, to some extent, in political isolation.”
The Azerbaijani leader’s comments underscore Baku’s commitment to advancing regional transport and trade integration while urging Armenia to engage constructively to avoid further marginalization in both economic and diplomatic arenas.
