Azerbaijan and Armenia Sign Protocol Regarding Four Villages in Gazakh Region

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The 9th meeting of the State Commission on the Delimitation of the State Border between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, alongside the Commission on the Matters of Delimitation of the State Border and Border Security between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, convened under the esteemed chairmanship of Shahin Mustafayev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Mher Grigoryan, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, on May 15, 2024. The session took place directly on the border between the two nations.
During the meticulously orchestrated meeting, in accordance with the Protocol established during the 8th meeting on April 19, 2024, the commissions engaged in comprehensive discussions concerning the progress made thus far. Emphasizing their commitment to mutual understanding and cooperation, the parties jointly drafted a Protocol-Description concerning specific segments of the border line. These segments include Baganys Ayrim (AR) – Baganis (RA), Ashagy Askipara (AR) – Voskepar (RA), Kheyrimli (AR) – Kirants (RA), and Gyzylhajily (AR) – Berkaber (RA).
The primary objective of this protocol is to realign these border segments in accordance with historically and legally substantiated inter-republican borders that were in effect during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. This realignment process involves meticulous consideration of coordinates derived from geodetic measurements conducted on-site, in accordance with the topographic map of the General Staff of the USSR Armed Forces from 1976, which underwent procedural validation in 1979.
Concluding the fruitful deliberations, the respective protocol was formally signed, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts towards delineating the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Furthermore, the participants agreed to finalize the details regarding the date and location of the subsequent meeting through established working procedures, underscoring their continued dedication to constructive dialogue and peaceful resolution.
