Azerbaijan and EU Reinforce Strategic Energy Partnership at Southern Gas Corridor Meeting

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Dan Jørgensen, European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, on March 3. The delegation is in Baku to participate in the 12th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Council.
Dan Jørgensen noted that President Aliyev’s address at the opening session of the ministerial meetings left a deep impression on participants. Emphasizing the importance of the events, he underlined the strategic value of partnership with Azerbaijan and expressed the European Union’s interest in further expanding cooperation. He also conveyed appreciation for the collaboration achieved to date.
President Ilham Aliyev recalled last year’s visits to Azerbaijan by Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, and Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement. The head of state described the active engagement between the respective teams as a clear indication of the strong mutual will to deepen cooperation, particularly in energy and connectivity.
During the meeting, the sides highlighted Azerbaijan’s significant contribution to Europe’s energy security, especially under the current geopolitical circumstances. Discussions also focused on expanding Azerbaijan’s energy export geography within the European market and exploring further prospects for cooperation in natural gas supplies and green energy initiatives.
The talks reaffirmed the shared commitment of Azerbaijan and the European Union to strengthening their strategic energy partnership and advancing joint projects aimed at ensuring sustainable and diversified energy supplies for Europe.
