Azerbaijan and Kuwait Hold 3rd Joint Commission Meeting to Bolster Bilateral Cooperation

Kuwait City, The Gulf Observer: As part of continued efforts to enhance bilateral relations, the 3rd meeting of the Joint Commission for Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State of Kuwait was convened in Kuwait on April 30, 2025. The session was co-chaired by Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, with participation from senior officials and representatives of various governmental bodies from both countries.
The meeting served as a vital platform for strengthening and institutionalizing the longstanding friendly ties between Azerbaijan and Kuwait. Discussions focused on promoting mutual interests and coordinated cooperation across a wide range of sectors. The Joint Commission acts as a mechanism for regular dialogue and joint initiatives aimed at deepening strategic and economic partnerships.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further develop bilateral relations based on mutual respect, shared values, and converging interests. They stressed the importance of expanding collaboration in energy, trade, investment, infrastructure, high technologies, transport, agriculture, food security, education, healthcare, tourism, media, and sports. Concrete steps were proposed to advance cooperation and ensure the implementation of joint projects in these sectors.
During the meeting, the two countries agreed to undertake additional measures to expand trade turnover, enhance economic connectivity, and support industrial and technological initiatives. Improving logistics services and facilitating trade flows were identified as key priorities. The energy sector, including oil, gas, and clean energy, featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides highlighting the importance of joint efforts toward sustainable and diversified economic development.
The Kuwaiti delegation extended congratulations to Azerbaijan on its successful preparations for hosting the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). Kuwait underscored that the international recognition of Azerbaijan’s leadership in global environmental governance reflects its growing influence on the world stage. The two countries also expressed satisfaction with their collaboration in multilateral platforms and pledged continued mutual support in international forums.
In the broader context of Azerbaijan-Gulf relations, the Azerbaijani side commended Kuwait’s chairmanship of the current session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the GCC–Azerbaijan joint work plan for 2024–2028, emphasizing enhanced political and economic cooperation.
Regional and international issues of mutual concern were also discussed, with a shared emphasis on promoting peace, security, and the resolution of conflicts in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter and international law. Both sides reiterated their unwavering support for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting concluded with the signing of the official protocol of the 3rd Joint Commission meeting, including its annexes and a joint roadmap covering strategic cooperation between 2025 and 2027. Additionally, a bilateral agreement on cooperation in agriculture and several programs in the fields of sports, culture, and tourism were signed, marking a new chapter of multidimensional collaboration.
The parties agreed to hold the 4th meeting of the Joint Commission in 2027 in Baku, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
