Vietnam and Cuba Strengthen Solidarity and Friendship in Historic Meeting

Ho Chi Minh City, The Gulf Observer: On Wednesday, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Tô Lâm met with Salvador Valdes Mesa, Politburo member of the Communist Party of Cuba (CPC) and Vice President of Cuba, in Ho Chi Minh City. The meeting came right after the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2025).

In a warm and respectful exchange, General Secretary Lâm extended his heartfelt regards and gratitude to the leaders of the Cuban Party and State for sending a high-ranking delegation to Vietnam. This gesture of solidarity was particularly meaningful as both nations prepare to commemorate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations later this year (December 2, 1960-2025).

Lâm emphasized Vietnam’s deep appreciation for Cuba’s unwavering support—both spiritual and material—during Vietnam’s struggle for national liberation and reunification. He highlighted the invaluable friendship and special cooperation between the two nations, underscoring the importance of preserving and promoting these bonds for future generations.

The General Secretary also reflected on his recent state visit to Cuba in September 2024, recalling the warm reception from the Cuban Party, State, and people. He reassured his Cuban counterpart that Vietnam stands in solidarity with Cuba, sympathizing with the challenges the country is currently facing. Lâm expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Cuban Communist Party, Cuba would overcome its difficulties and continue to achieve success in building socialism.

In his remarks, Salvador Mesa conveyed the warm greetings of First Secretary of the CPC and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel, as well as General Raúl Castro, to General Secretary Tô Lâm and the leaders of Vietnam. Mesa expressed his pleasure and honor at visiting Vietnam once again, noting that the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification had been successfully celebrated and widely recognized by the international community. He emphasized that the victory of April 30, 1975, was not only a triumph for the Vietnamese people but also for all peace-loving peoples, including the Cuban people.

Mesa shared his admiration for the jubilant atmosphere surrounding Vietnam’s national celebration and commended the Vietnamese people for their strong belief in the leadership of the CPV. He expressed confidence that this unity would serve as a foundation for Vietnam’s goal of becoming a developed, high-income country. The Cuban Vice President also praised Vietnam’s achievements under the guidance of the CPV, believing that the country will continue to advance in its national construction and development.

In a spirit of camaraderie, the two leaders celebrated the continuous enhancement of the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Cuba. They discussed the strengthening of traditional solidarity and special friendship, as well as cooperation in strategic areas such as rice production, seafood exploitation, renewable energy, and biotechnology.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to further boosting bilateral economic cooperation, with the aim of making it more substantive and effective. Both sides expressed a determination to elevate trade and investment ties to match the strong political relations between the two nations.

This historic meeting reaffirms the enduring bond between Vietnam and Cuba, reflecting their mutual commitment to advancing their shared goals for prosperity and peace.
