Azerbaijan and Malaysia Discuss Enhanced Cooperation on OIC Sidelines in Istanbul

Istanbul, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan on the sidelines of the 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Istanbul.

The two ministers held comprehensive discussions on bilateral and multilateral cooperation, focusing on strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and Malaysia across various sectors, including politics, economy, education, energy, high technology, and tourism.

The ministers exchanged views on recent developments in the Middle East, particularly the evolving Israel–Iran conflict, and reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.

Both sides emphasized the significant potential for expanding political dialogue and agreed on the need to organize reciprocal high-level visits. They also welcomed the progress made through recent political consultations between their respective Foreign Ministries, noting its positive impact on bilateral relations.

Minister Bayramov highlighted the importance of cooperation within multilateral frameworks, including the United Nations, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Non-Aligned Movement. He further stressed the value of strengthening Azerbaijan–Malaysia relations within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The ministers also underscored the strategic relevance of Azerbaijan’s prospective membership in the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, which comprises eight developing countries, as a step towards broader multilateral engagement.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the mutual commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and supporting each other in regional and international fora, while also addressing other issues of shared interest.
