Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia Discuss Strengthening Energy Cooperation on OPEC+ Sidelines

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov met with Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on the sidelines of the 9th International Seminar of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) held in Vienna, Austria.
The two ministers held comprehensive discussions on enhancing energy cooperation both in bilateral and OPEC+ formats. They reviewed preparations for the upcoming 4th meeting of the Joint Technical Commission between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia, which serves as a key platform for strategic dialogue and coordination in the energy sector.
The talks also addressed ongoing cooperation between the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and leading Saudi energy companies in the hydrocarbon sector, with a focus on strengthening investment ties and technological collaboration.
A key point of discussion was the advancement of joint green energy initiatives, underscoring the two countries’ commitment to energy transition and sustainability. The ministers highlighted the planned commissioning of the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant in the fourth quarter of this year as a major milestone.
Additionally, they reviewed progress on the implementation of 3.5 GW offshore wind energy projects, involving SOCAR Green, ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia), and Masdar (United Arab Emirates), which reflect the growing momentum of trilateral cooperation in renewable energy development.
Both sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to fostering long-term energy partnerships, aligned with global goals on emissions reduction, diversification of energy sources, and sustainable development.
