Azerbaijan Commits to Ongoing Constructive Efforts for Regional Peace: Jeyhun Bayramov

Ankara, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, has emphasized the new economic opportunities arising from the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, particularly through the development of the Middle Corridor. Speaking at a joint press conference following the Türkiye-Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan 2nd Trilateral Meeting of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade/Economy, and Transport in Ankara, Bayramov highlighted the significant potential of the Middle Corridor, which will connect East and West via Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.

Bayramov also addressed concerns regarding Armenia’s constitution, which contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan. He stated that such provisions and calls for revanchism hinder the peace process, but reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to taking constructive steps toward peace.

The minister provided an update on the ongoing reconstruction efforts in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and expressed gratitude to Türkiye and Uzbekistan for their contributions to the development of the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions. He also spoke positively about the strengthening of relations between Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Uzbekistan, noting strategic partnerships in various sectors such as trade, investment, transport, and economic cooperation. He further mentioned that new trilateral projects are currently under discussion, with renewable energy identified as a promising area for collaboration.

In terms of infrastructure and logistics, Bayramov highlighted the importance of expanding the Middle Corridor. He shared plans to increase the capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway from 1 million to 5 million tons per year, as well as expanding the Baku International Sea Trade Port from 5 million to 25 million tons. “The Caspian region holds vast potential for cargo transportation,” he added.

On environmental cooperation, Bayramov expressed gratitude to Türkiye and Uzbekistan for their active participation in COP29, contributing to the positive outcomes of the summit.

The trilateral meeting also addressed international cooperation within organizations such as the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), UN, OIC, OSCE, D-8, and others. Additionally, the parties discussed the results of the “United Territorial Community” initiative and the implementation of regional projects, including the Trans-Afghan railway.

Bayramov reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to a peace framework based on the “two states for two peoples” principle regarding the situation in Gaza. He also expressed Azerbaijan’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to support this peace initiative.

Concluding his remarks, Bayramov extended condolences to Türkiye’s leadership and people over the tragic fire at a hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in Bolu province.
