Azerbaijan Elected to UNESCO Cultural Property Protection Committee for 2025–2029

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The 16th meeting of the States Parties to the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), was convened from December 1 to 2.
During the session, the Republic of Azerbaijan was elected as a member of the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict for the 2025–2029 term.
Six countries, including Azerbaijan, vied for four available seats on the committee. Following a competitive election process, Azerbaijan secured the majority of votes in the first round, ensuring its successful membership.
The committee plays a vital role in safeguarding cultural property during armed conflicts, monitoring the implementation of the 1954 Hague Convention and its Second Protocol, and providing technical, legal, and institutional assistance to states.
Azerbaijan’s election is seen as recognition of its strong standing in the international community in the field of cultural heritage protection. It also highlights the country’s active participation in global platforms and its consistent policy efforts to preserve cultural property.
