Azerbaijan, Iran Presidents Reaffirm Strong Bilateral Ties, Discuss Regional Stability

Baku, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a phone conversation with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian on January 31, reaffirming the strong and historic ties between the two nations.

During the call, both leaders emphasized that Azerbaijan-Iran relations are grounded in friendship, brotherhood, and good-neighborliness, strengthened by deep historical, ethnic, and religious bonds shared by their peoples.

The presidents reflected positively on President Pezeshkian’s previous visits to Azerbaijan and the productive negotiations held during these meetings, noting that such high-level interactions have played a pivotal role in advancing bilateral cooperation. They also highlighted that the construction of the Aghband-Kelaleh highway bridge over the Araz River is progressing as scheduled.

President Aliyev expressed concern over the current regional situation, affirming that Azerbaijan stands ready to contribute to de-escalating tensions and stressed the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and mutual understanding.

President Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude for Azerbaijan’s stance. Both sides exchanged views on various dimensions of the friendly and brotherly relations between their countries and discussed future joint initiatives, agreeing to maintain continued contacts.
