Azerbaijan

Baku, The Gulf Observer: On December 8, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, held a meeting with a delegation from Iran led by Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation and interparliamentary relations.

The officials highlighted the significance of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s visit to Azerbaijan earlier this year, along with other reciprocal high-level visits and meetings, as well as the agreements signed to advance bilateral ties.

During the discussion, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration across political, economic, trade, transport, cultural, and humanitarian sectors, noting that these efforts play a vital role in deepening Azerbaijan-Iran relations. The meeting also underscored the pivotal role of the Azerbaijan-Iran State Commission on economic, trade, and humanitarian cooperation in facilitating joint initiatives.

Speaker Gafarova reviewed ongoing legislative cooperation between the two countries, highlighting that her recent visit to Iran positively contributed to interparliamentary relations. She further stressed the importance of continued collaboration in international parliamentary platforms, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network (NAM PN), the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Economic Cooperation Organization (PAECO). She called for strengthening the work of interparliamentary working groups to sustain these ties.

Foreign Minister Araghchi reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to deepening relations with Azerbaijan, citing the close political dialogue between the two nations. He also shared insights from his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between the two countries’ legislative bodies.
