Azerbaijan

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The U-23 European Judo Championships concluded in Chișinău, Moldova, with Azerbaijan delivering a historic performance to top both the overall and men’s team standings.

On the second day of competition, Azerbaijani judokas secured a complete set of medals. Kenan Nasibov (+100 kg) dominated his category, defeating all opponents to claim continental gold, while Omer Rajabli (81 kg) earned silver, and Aslan Kotsoyev (90 kg) took bronze.

Earlier, on the first day, Islam Rahimov (66 kg) captured gold, marking an outstanding start for the Azerbaijani contingent.

This achievement represents a milestone in Azerbaijani judo history, as it is the first time the country’s athletes have won U-23 European titles in both the 66 kg and +100 kg weight divisions.

In total, Azerbaijan finished the championship with four medalstwo gold, one silver, and one bronze — emerging as the top nation among 37 participating countries, despite fielding only male judokas.

The remarkable performance once again underscored Azerbaijan’s growing strength and consistency in European judo.
