Azerbaijani Deputy FM Elnur Mammadov Attends UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov participated in the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

During the session, Deputy Minister Mammadov took part in the vote for the election of UNESCO’s new Director-General on November 6. As a result of the election, Khaled El-Enany of the Arab Republic of Egypt was elected as the new Director-General of UNESCO by a majority vote.

In the course of his visit, Mammadov held meetings with Khondker Mohammad Talha, the newly elected Chair of the General Conference, and Vera El Khoury Lacoeuilhe, Chair of the UNESCO Executive Board.

Discussions focused on Azerbaijan’s active role in the work of UNESCO’s governing bodies, the country’s significant contributions to the organization’s initiatives, and the prospects for further strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO.
