Azerbaijan’s flag burning incident
The Burning of a flag by Armenia is a symbol of disrespect and is actually a common image of the Armenian society
Azerbaijan’s flag was burned during the parade at the opening ceremony of the European Weightlifting Championship in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia on April 14, 2023. When the Azerbaijani flag was brought to the hall, one of the event staff ran to the stage, took the flag, burned it and took it out of the hall.
The Azerbaijani weightlifting team decided to refuse to participate in the European Championship in Yerevan because of a unethical and barbaric incident during the opening ceremony of the competition.
The culprit’s name is Aram Nikolyan, founder of the Nikolyan fashion house and head of the design studio of the Public Television of Armenia.
He was taken to the police station, from where he was soon released. Locals who gathered in front of the police station greeted him with applause.
Such a barbaric act at a ceremony in which the Prime Minister of Armenia took part, and accompanied by the applause of the Armenian public, presenting the perpetrator of this act as a hero, is a vivid example of ethnic hatred, racism, xenophobia, Azerbaijani phobia in Armenia.
The burning of the Azerbaijani flag in an obviously offensive way at the opening ceremony held in Yerevan places responsibility on the Armenian authorities.
These types of incidents show the Armenia’s cowardly nature
Armenian authorities have not taken necessary legal measures against the people who committed this and other similar incidents that happened before. As a result, this indirectly shows that the Armenian state is complicit with the perpetrators of those acts and directly supports them.
Such approaches, in turn, ultimately lead to the creation of fertile conditions for the widespread of hatred and Azerbaijanophobia at the state level.
Azerbaijan always promoted peaceful dialogue and understanding between the two countries to avoid escalating tensions and conflicts, but Armenia is spoiling and undermining peace efforts.
Being a Pakistani and as a nation we stand with the people of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani Government for this act of aggression by the Armenia.
