Azerbaijan’s Speaker Sahiba Gafarova Meets Omani Shura Council Chairman in Baku

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met on Monday with Chairman of the Shura Council of the Sultanate of Oman, Khalid bin Hilal bin Nasser Al Maawali, who is in Azerbaijan to attend the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).

During the meeting, both sides expressed confidence in the productivity of the upcoming plenary session, emphasizing the importance of discussions on key regional and international issues. They highlighted the APA’s role as a vital platform for parliamentary diplomacy, fostering dialogue and cooperation among legislative bodies across Asia.

Speaker Gafarova underscored the strong ties between Azerbaijan and Oman, particularly their collaboration and mutual support within international organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM). She also noted the growing cooperation within the framework of the NAM Parliamentary Network, established on the initiative of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Chairman Al Maawali reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to supporting Azerbaijan within the NAM Parliamentary Network and other global platforms. He expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Azerbaijan and participate in the event, as well as for the warm hospitality extended to him.

He also hailed Oman’s full membership in the APA during Azerbaijan’s presidency, emphasizing that the 15th plenary session in Baku would contribute significantly to the organization’s future activities.

Both sides commended the strengthening of parliamentary ties between Azerbaijan and Oman, highlighting the role of reciprocal visits and engagements in deepening bilateral relations. They also exchanged views on other matters of mutual interest.
