Bagan’s Sunset Charm Continues to Attract Local and International Visitors

Bagan, The Gulf Observer: Renowned for its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes, Bagan remains one of Myanmar’s most captivating destinations for both local and international travellers. With each passing season, the ancient city draws thousands who come to witness the magnificent sunsets that illuminate its timeless skyline of pagodas and the serene Ayeyawady River.

“Being a concentration site of Myanmar’s cultural heritage, Bagan welcomes domestic and foreign visitors throughout the year. Foreigners, in particular, show strong interest in our country’s culture and natural beauty,” stated an official from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism (Bagan).

Among the most popular spots for sunset viewing are Nyaunglaphak Lake and the Sulamani viewpoints, both offering sweeping views of the golden-lit plains of Bagan. While most local travellers currently prefer the Buu Pagoda area, visitors also enjoy vistas from Ohhteingon (East and West), Kyaukmyatmaw, Minnanthu Lake, Komauk Lake, and the Nan Myint Tower.

Additionally, four official viewpoints and two scenic mounds allow visitors to admire the panoramic beauty of Bagan, including views of the iconic Ayeyawady River and the distant silhouettes of Tantkyitaung and Tuyintaung.

Despite restrictions implemented after the 2016 earthquake, which prohibit climbing on pagodas, Bagan has continued to flourish as a premier heritage tourism destination. Ongoing maintenance and preservation efforts by local authorities aim to safeguard the site’s cultural integrity for future generations.

“Bagan always leaves a lasting impression, regardless of the time or season. Many people return for a second or even third visit, which is a unique sign of its enduring appeal,” the tourism official noted.
