Bahla Hosts Grand Equestrian Festival Celebrating Oman’s 55th National Day

Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The Seih Al-Shamkhat Equestrian Field in the Wilayat of Bahla hosted a vibrant equestrian festival in celebration of Oman’s 55th National Day, highlighting the Sultanate’s rich cultural heritage and enduring equestrian traditions. Organized by the Bahla Equestrian Association, the event reflected deep national pride and the historical significance of horseback riding in Omani culture.
The festival drew 170 riders who competed in seven main races, each named after iconic historical and cultural landmarks of Bahla. The thematic races underscored the strong connection between equestrian sports and the region’s centuries-old legacy.
A key highlight was the Elite Race for purebred Arabian horses, covering 800 meters, which saw intense competition among top riders. The winner received a traditional Arabian sword, a prestigious symbol of honor associated with excellence in horsemanship.
In addition to competitive races, the event featured an array of traditional and cultural performances, including horse and camel shows, tent pegging and archery demonstrations, paragliding displays, and folk art presentations. A traditional crafts exhibition provided visitors with insight into Oman’s artisanal craftsmanship, with local artisans showcasing authentic handmade products.
The festival was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Hilal bin Said Al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah.
Abdullah bin Said Al-Ma’ani, Chairman of the Bahla Equestrian Association, highlighted the festival’s importance in nurturing young equestrian talent and promoting sports and cultural activities grounded in Oman’s heritage.
“Equestrianism is an integral part of our national identity and historical legacy,” he emphasized.
He noted the strong public turnout as evidence of the festival’s success and its positive social impact. Al-Ma’ani reaffirmed the association’s commitment to developing the festival into a comprehensive platform that unites sport, heritage, arts, and traditional crafts, further strengthening Oman’s cultural prominence.
