Bahrain holds coordination meeting with UN agencies

Manama, The Gulf Observer: Bahrain’s Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, headed the meeting of the Coordination and Follow-up Committee between the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the UN – United Nations agencies. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the ministries and government agencies, and twenty-one organizations and agencies affiliated with the United Nations.

The Undersecretary affirmed Bahrain’s keenness, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the support of the Government headed by the His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations and its agencies.

Prospects of cooperation and exchange of experiences were reviewed to activate strategic cooperation and sustainable development signed between the two sides for the years (2021-2024). The Undersecretary stressed Bahrain’s interest in continuing its cooperation with the United Nations agencies, in support of the government’s work program.

He noted that that the second national report will be presented to the High-level Political Forum of the Economic and Social Council on June, and the fourth national report will be discussed before the Human Rights Council within the universal periodic review mechanism in November.

For his part, UN Resident Coordinator in Bahrain, Khalid Al Meqwad, praised the cooperation between the two sides, in light of the Secretary-General’s visions on “Delivering as One at the United Nations”. He noted that the UN’s support to combat human trafficking, the localization of sustainable development goals, and the implementation of the outcomes of the Education Transformation Summit at the national level.

The meeting was attended by the Coordinator in the Office of the Prime Minister, Yara Reda Faraj, the Director of the International Relations Department at the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, Shaikh Firas bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture Affairs, Dr. Abdulaziz Abdulkarim, the Assistant Undersecretary for Joint Municipal Services at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Shawqiah Humaidan, The Director of the Grievances and Protection Department, Sherine Khalil Al-Saati, the Legal Adviser at the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, Noura Isa Mubarak, the Director of the Public Health Department, Dr. Najat Mohammad Abulfath, the International Relations Specialist at the Ministry of Health, Hana Al-Shakr, from the Ministry of Education, Marwa Rashid Al-Kaabi and from the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Noor Al-Mehza also attended.
