Baku Hosts 3rd Meeting of International Fund to Combat Climate Change
Baku, The Gulf Observer: The third meeting of the Board of Directors of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage has officially commenced, focusing on aiding developing countries vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. This three-day event, as reported by NHC, aims to make pivotal decisions regarding the Fund’s acquisition of financial institution status within the World Bank system and to initiate its full operational activities.
The meeting is gathering approximately 200 representatives from both developed and developing nations, alongside delegates from the United Nations, the World Bank, international non-governmental organizations, and other like-minded groups.
In his opening remarks, Mukhtar Babayev, the newly appointed President of COP29 and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, underscored the importance of global solidarity and the urgent need for increased efforts to combat climate change. He emphasized the necessity of launching the Fund’s practical activities to effectively support affected nations.
This meeting marks a critical step towards enhancing international cooperation in addressing climate-related challenges and securing financial resources for those most impacted.
