Bali to Launch Electric Bus Rapid Transit with Intelligent Transport System by 2025
Denpasar, The Gulf Observer: The Bali Transportation Service (Dishub Bali) is gearing up to integrate an electric bus rapid transit (eBRT) system with an intelligent transport system (ITS), aiming for operational readiness next year.
Dishub Bali head IGW Samsi Gunarta announced on Tuesday that the eBRT is anticipated to commence operations in two corridors by 2025. The new bus service is designed to provide passengers with reliable travel and arrival times.
Gunarta emphasized the importance of unobstructed routes for the efficient operation of the electric buses, necessitating the creation of dedicated lanes that will be restricted to private vehicles.
“An integrated IT-based system is needed,” Gunarta stated.
He further mentioned that Dishub Bali will conduct public outreach about the eBRT system, as the dedicated lanes will repurpose space currently used by the public.
In addition, I Made Rai Ridharta, chairperson of the Indonesian Transportation Society (MTI) Bali, acknowledged that limited road space poses a significant challenge to the development of public transportation on the island.
“Building a special road is not possible due to limited space,” Ridharta said.
However, Ridharta highlighted that public transportation equipped with suitable facilities and advanced technology can still address Bali’s traffic congestion issues. He noted that the current public reluctance to use public transportation is largely due to unpredictable schedules.
