Biden to Emphasize Peaceful Transition and Ukraine Support in Meeting with Trump: Sullivan

Washington, The Gulf Observer: US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has revealed that President Joe Biden’s primary message during his upcoming meeting with President-elect Donald Trump will emphasize his commitment to ensuring a peaceful transfer of power. Sullivan also stated that Biden plans to discuss key international issues, including developments in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

During an appearance on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday, Sullivan emphasized Biden’s intention to advocate for continued US support for Ukraine, stressing that abandoning Ukraine would lead to greater instability in Europe. “President Biden will have the opportunity over the next 70 days to make the case to Congress and the incoming administration that the United States should not walk away from Ukraine,” Sullivan said.

Sullivan’s comments came amid heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine, as both nations launched a record number of drone attacks, totaling around 200 drones exchanged. When asked whether Biden would request further funding for Ukraine, Sullivan refrained from offering specifics, noting that Biden would make the case for ongoing resources beyond the end of his term.

The remarks also followed a controversy involving a Republican operative, Bryan Lanza, whose comments suggesting that Ukraine focus on peace rather than territorial restoration were distanced from Trump’s campaign. A spokesperson clarified that Lanza, a former contractor for Trump’s campaign, does not speak for the president-elect.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that he could end the war in Ukraine within a day, though he has not provided a clear explanation on how he would achieve this. Additionally, Trump has asserted that Russia would not have attacked Ukraine had he been president at the time.
