Brunei and Kuwait Celebrate 35 Years of Diplomatic Ties with Renewed Commitment to Cooperation

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, held a meeting yesterday with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of Kuwait, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

During the meeting, His Majesty congratulated His Highness Sheikh Sabah on his appointment as Crown Prince of Kuwait on June 1, 2024. His Majesty also expressed satisfaction over the strong and enduring ties between Brunei Darussalam and Kuwait, as the two nations mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025.

His Majesty highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the two countries, particularly in the fields of education, defence, and people-to-people exchanges. He underscored Brunei’s interest in deepening trade relations with Kuwait and expanding market access in light of current geopolitical and geo-economic uncertainties.

Both leaders discussed mutual priorities, including strengthening investment cooperation to support Brunei’s economic diversification efforts. They also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration in education and cultural exchanges to foster deeper understanding and friendship between the peoples of Brunei and Kuwait.

Brunei and Kuwait established diplomatic relations on May 1, 1990, and have since enjoyed multifaceted cooperation in areas such as trade, economy, culture, communication, health, education, tourism, and sports. The meeting served as a reaffirmation of the strong bilateral ties and shared vision for greater regional engagement and prosperity.
