Canadian PM Unveils $9 Billion Defence Boost, Largest Armed Forces Pay Raise in a Generation

Ottawa, The Gulf Observer: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has unveiled an investment exceeding $9 billion to strengthen the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), providing the capabilities and support necessary to safeguard Canadians and uphold the country’s international commitments.
The announcement forms part of Canada’s strategic plan to meet NATO’s defence spending target of 2% of GDP this year and to increase investment to 5% of annual GDP by 2035.
Speaking from a military base, Prime Minister Carney also confirmed that all members of the CAF will receive the largest pay raise in a generation, reflecting the government’s recognition of their service and sacrifice.
“Our plan includes modernising military equipment, building up Canada’s defence industry, diversifying international partnerships, and investing in dual-use infrastructure – such as airports, ports, telecom, and emergency systems – that support both defence and civilian readiness,” Carney said.
According to government officials, the new investments will focus on advanced technology, improved readiness, and enhanced operational capacity, ensuring Canada remains a reliable partner in global security.
