China Calls for Stronger Cooperation at CICA Foreign Ministers’ Meeting
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi participated via video link in the seventh foreign ministers’ meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) on Tuesday, reaffirming China’s commitment to fostering regional security and cooperation.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, highlighted China’s role as a founding member of CICA and reiterated its active support for the organization’s development.
Stressing the importance of ensuring security, promoting development, pursuing cooperation, and achieving win-win outcomes, Wang called on CICA to leverage its unique role in building an Asian community with a shared future. He urged member states to expand avenues for mutual growth and prosperity.
Wang outlined four key priorities for CICA members:
- Adhering to Peaceful Coexistence: He emphasized the need for collective efforts to achieve common security.
- Advancing Belt and Road Cooperation: He called for joint initiatives to boost regional prosperity and development.
- Respecting Civilizational Diversity: Wang encouraged cultural exchanges and mutual learning among nations.
- Practicing Multilateralism: He advocated for global solidarity to build a better future for all.
Highlighting China’s modernization as a model of peaceful development, Wang noted that this approach offers new opportunities for Asian countries. He expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with CICA member states to forge a new era of Asian civilization characterized by solidarity, cooperation, and win-win outcomes.
The meeting also included remarks from Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu, who summarized achievements during Kazakhstan’s tenure as CICA’s rotating chair. Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, the incoming chair, presented key objectives for the organization moving forward.
Member states emphasized the importance of unity, trust, and strategic coordination within CICA. They underscored the need to enhance the organization’s mechanisms, expand its influence, and align efforts with the Global South to address global challenges. Participants also discussed ways to better integrate the Belt and Road Initiative with the Global Security Initiative, enhance regional connectivity, and foster deeper understanding among nations.
The meeting reaffirmed CICA’s role as a vital platform for promoting peace, stability, and development across Asia.
