China-Europe Freight Train Services Achieve Record Transport Volume in May
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China-Europe freight train services achieved their highest monthly transport volume on record in May, according to the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway).
In May, the number of China-Europe freight train services increased by 14 percent year-on-year, totaling 1,724 trips. Cargo transport reached approximately 186,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), marking a 13 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This surge in activity resulted in the highest monthly transport volume in the history of China-Europe freight train services.
Since the beginning of the year, China Railway has accelerated the development of a modern railway logistics system, meticulously organizing cargo transportation and continuously enhancing the railway system’s freight transport capacity and service quality.
Additional data from China Railway revealed that in May, the nation’s railways transported 337 million tonnes of goods, representing a 2.8 percent year-on-year increase. From January to April, China operated 6,184 China-Europe freight trains, delivering 675,000 TEUs of goods, which accounts for a year-on-year increase of 10 percent and 11 percent, respectively.
During the same period, five China-Europe freight trains with full timetables began steady weekly service between Xi’an and Duisburg, Germany, and Chengdu and Lodz, Poland. This expansion, along with the addition of 16 overseas return points, has bolstered China-Europe freight options to meet the diverse needs of global customers.
The significant growth in China-Europe freight train services highlights the increasing importance of these routes in facilitating international trade and strengthening economic ties between China and Europe.
