China Launches Third-Gen Superconducting Quantum Computer

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Origin Wukong, China’s cutting-edge third-gen superconducting quantum computer, commenced operations on Saturday at Origin Quantum Computing Technology (Hefei) Co., Ltd. in Anhui Province, East China. Fueled by the innovative Wukong, a 72-qubit indigenous superconducting quantum chip, it stands as China’s most advanced and programmable superconducting quantum computer, as affirmed by researchers.

Kong Weicheng, deputy director of the Anhui Quantum Computing Engineering Research Center, emphasized the integration of the third-generation quantum computing control system, significantly enhancing the operational efficiency of the quantum computer.

Jia Zhilong, deputy director of the Quantum Computing Chip Provincial Key Laboratory, highlighted the Wukong chip’s composition of 198 qubits, featuring 72 computational qubits and 126 coupler qubits. The computer’s nomenclature, inspired by the mythical Chinese figure Sun Wukong, reflects its powerful and versatile capabilities, akin to the legendary character’s ability to transform into 72 different forms.
