China Strongly Opposes U.S. Report Denying Its Contribution to the Multilateral Trading System

Multilateral Trading System

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China issued a strong rebuke on Monday in response to a U.S. report that allegedly denies China’s significant contributions to the multilateral trading system and the global economy since its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) more than two decades ago.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Commerce emphasized that China, as the largest developing member of the WTO, has consistently and firmly supported the multilateral trading system. The nation has demonstrated a genuine commitment to multilateralism and has diligently fulfilled its WTO commitments throughout its membership.

China has continually enhanced its market economy institutions and legal systems, aligning them with its national conditions. The country has undertaken substantial measures to expand high-level institutional opening-up, actively engaging in the reform initiatives of the WTO. Moreover, China has played a constructive role in aiding other developing members, particularly the least developed countries, in integrating into the multilateral trading system.

The Ministry underscored that China’s actions are rooted in a commitment to international cooperation and the advancement of a fair and inclusive global trading environment. The statement concludes by asserting China’s dedication to upholding the principles of the WTO and fostering collaborative efforts to address the challenges facing the global economy.
