China Unveils Comprehensive Action Plan to Tackle Soil Pollution by 2027
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China has announced a new action plan aimed at intensifying the prevention and control of soil pollution sources, with the goal of achieving significant improvements by 2027. The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment in collaboration with the National Development and Reform Commission, seeks to enhance soil quality while supporting the country’s high-quality economic growth.
The plan emphasizes reducing pollution at its sources, particularly in industrial and mining sectors, with measures that address site selection, pollutant containment, and whole-process monitoring. A key focus is placed on ensuring the safe use of arable and construction land, and on mitigating risks of groundwater pollution, especially near high-risk chemical parks.
To fund these efforts, China will tap into special government bonds and a central environmental protection fund, alongside encouraging private sector involvement. The goal is to create a robust policy system and diverse financing options that support sustainable soil management and ecological restoration across the nation.
This action plan is part of China’s broader ecological agenda, aligning environmental protection with sustainable economic development and public health priorities.
